GIRLS Academy

GIRLS Academy

Each year, the Northwest Suburban Alumnae Association is proud to partner with the Eta Lambda chapter of Loyola University Chicago to host GIRLS Academy. GIRLS Academy is a unique experience for 11-13 year olds to the Chicagoland area. The pilot program was launched in 2010, and it is a 1 1/2 day retreat tailored to meet the unique needs of middle school girls. The facilitation of discussions, small group mentoring, and personal journaling are just a few of the highlights of this program.

Empowering and inspiring women has always been a top priority within Kappa Kappa Gamma. Now we are reaching out beyond our Greek roots and making a difference in our communities with girls who will grow up to be tomorrow’s leaders!

This is an incredible opportunity for the Eta Lambda collegiate women to give back to the broader community through a dedicated program designed to help pre-teen girls explore who they are and the difference they can make in the world. Most importantly, it helps to break down barriers and stereotypes that are prevalent during the middle school age years.

Approximately 18-20 Eta Lambda members will volunteer and be trained to be the role models and small group facilitators. The chapter women are supervised by trained Kappa alumnae and all alumnae are previous participants in an event. By the end of the weekend, GIRLS Academy participants will have established a relationship with their mentors that will hopefully continue to blossom for years to come.

GIRLS Academy costs are broken up into segments of: food; participant and leader workbooks; printing; school facility rental, security and background checks (if required by the school); lead facilitators’ travel; and mailing expenses for materials. Both the Eta Lambda chapter and the Northwest Suburban Alumnae Association are fundraising to share these costs and are seeking local business involvement as well.

If you have a business contact that you would like to share, would like to volunteer your time, materials or food, or make an extra donation through the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation, please send a message to
